Kesari, the deep saffron colour is associated with sacrifice, religious abstinence, quest for light and salvation. The film is a historic tale of bravery and valour of 21 soldiers of the Sikh Regiment of the British Army. Based on true events make it so painful to watch how people dealt those situations. It also preaches a good notion on humanity even on a battle ground. Bringing religion to evoke hatred and fuel war is wrong calling it gods words penned in one of its dialogues, which unfortunately even happens today.

The movie had short songs which was good keeping the context of the genre. had they even cut down on couple of more would have not affected the storyline. The cinematography was spectacular capturing scenic shots of the valleys in the first half. The movie never rushes to conclude and steadily progresses to the battle of Saragarhi fought in 1897 between the British colonial army and native Afghans is a chronicle, magnificently brought to the silver screen. The second half is soulful with good action sequences and has some spine-chilling moments. Akshay Kumar headlines the cast with impeccable screen presence as always. Parineeti Chopra plays deceased wife of Kumar’s character which the movie side-lines as subplot completely. The movie leaves you with a sense of pride and patriotism. Respect and salute to all those who gave their life.
